Cleaning Out The Closets

A.W. Tozer 90x115by A.W. Tozer

But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man "unclean." For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. Matthew 15:18-19

Another question to put to yourself is, "Do I have any habits I am ashamed to let anybody know I have? Have I any personal habits that I am ashamed of? Do I hide something when the pastor is coming? If everything were known in the church about how I lived, would I go back to church?" You can dodge this, twist it around and answer evasively, but the snow will lie on your heart. If you answer God honestly and go to work to get rid of it and clean it up, springtime will come for you. Then ask yourself, "Is my speech clean?" One of the most shocking things in the church is the dirty-mouthed Christian who always walks on the borderline.

Make Disciples

Vance Havner 90x115by Vance Havner

“Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations….” Matthew 28:17 (A.S.V.)

We would not strain for a point here, but it is evident that we are to make disciples, not just believers. Of course, in the Early Church there were no distinctions; a believer was also a disciple and a witness. There we no taking Christ as Saviour now, as Lord later-maybe never. Men confessed with their mouths Jesus as Lord while they believed in their hearts.

But today churches are filled with “believers” who have never been made disciples. Some of them perform perfunctory religious duties, but they have never denied self, taken up the cross, and followed Christ. They have not been taught to observe all things commanded.

The early Christians believed, became disciples, and that sent them out as witnesses to make disciples of others.

We need to learn our Great Commission all over again.
